Design Thinking Project with Ewan McIntoshFour schools are engaging in a design thinking project with Ewan McIntosh and Tom Barrett. Design Thinking can be seen as five stages, moving from problem finding, to problem solving, to prototype building to refining. The design thinking process works well to internalise this ethos of learning: Immersion is about creating huge (too much!) choice, synthesis is about beginning to make choices and narrow that research, ideation is a challenging, collaborative effort which demands respect from the team as there's no such thing as a 'wrong' idea until you prototype it and test it and review how you could make it better.

iPods and iPads in EducationThe use of mobile technology, andparticularly gesture technology, are emerging technologies. This project aims to use iPod Touches in the classroom enabling children to be active learners with digital multimodal opportunities.
There are limited examples of good practice for the integration of mobile gesture technology, such as IPod Touches, within a school setting. Research has shown that IPod Touches can be used to embed ICLTs across all KLAs and enrich learning environments by: improving student engagement significantly influencing literacy and numeracy and life chances for disadvantaged students. motivating and stimulating learners to want to learn. promoting collaboration and group work. being particularly beneficial for ESL and at risk students. This wiki aims to provide ideas for educators who are using iPods/iPads in the classroom. |

IWB ProjectInteractive whiteboards are appearing in an increasing number of our primary schools. International research shows that the value this tool can bring in a classroom can be truly transformational, if implemented and supported. It is also consistently reiterates that the most important variable in improving student learning is the quality of teaching that takes place. For many of our primary schools this Interactive whiteboards create a range of learning opportunities for both students and teachers. Studies have found them to be highly motivating and learner-centred when integrated innovatively. They offer a powerful facility for integrating media elements into teaching to enhance content and support collaborative learning. The drawback is that they may not be used to their full potential, serving in many cases as little more than a glorified whiteboard. This may change as users become more familiar with them and are more readily available. Our teachers need to be supported to use this tool to its capacity.
This site aims to provide web resources, discussions, creation software resources for all participating schools. Through training key personal in schools it is hoped a sustainable and capacity building community is created. |
